FAQ - HVMI Fishing

Q1.  What can be done about boats fishing or anchoring in the marina basin?

A1.  After  an investigation with NC Fish and Wildlife, US Coast Guard, and North Carolina Marine Patrol, it has been determined that HVMI cannot prevent this activity.  These fishing boaters are within their rights to use tidal waters.

.Q2.  Are you allowed to fish from the docks?

A2.  No, this is expressly prohibited on any of the docks with the exception of your own slip’s finger pier as per the Rules and Regulations

Q3.  Are you allowed to fish from the sea wall?

A3.  No, this is expressly prohibited in the Rules and Regulations.

Q4.  Are you allowed to fish from your vessel?

A4.  As per the Rules and Regulations, fishing is allowed from your vessel and on your slip’s finger pier only.  Fishing will be limited to “lobbing” only.  No casting will be permitted for safety reasons.

Q5.  Is cast net fishing allowed?

A5.  See Q4 above.  Anyone using cast nets from their finger pier or vessels should exercise great caution and limit overhead throwing motions.
