FAQ - HVMI Slip Rentals

Q1.  What has the Board of Directors done to help stabilize the slip rental program.

A1.  The Board has done a number of things to improve the rental program. The Board encourages all slip owners to use the services of the Harbour Master to rent their slips.  All slips rentals, currently about 90 per year, are handled by the Harbour Master as follows:

  1. All slips are rented at the established rate per slip foot, per month.
  2. All slips are rented through 12/31 of the current year.  If a renter comes in and just wants to rent for June, July, and August they must sign a lease for twelve (12) months from the current date through December 31 of the current year.
  3. The only exception is if the renter is willing to sign a full one year lease and pay up front.  In this case, the renter is given a two (2) month discount on the annual rate.
  4. The Harbour Master does not “steer” renters to a particular slip.  When a rental inquiry is made, the potential renter is given a list of slips available in their class, and the renter chooses from this list.
  5. No fee is charged to the slip owner for this service.b
  6. Checks are forwarded directly to the slip owner.
  7. If issues arise, they are handled directly between the Harbour Master and the renter, The Owner is not normally involved.
Owners are not required to use this service.  It is strictly voluntary.  If a slip is vacated with past due bills, the owner is ultimately responsible to collect from their renter or pay the amounts due to the marina.
